Invitation to Islam

The message of Islam

The Almighty God calls Himself “Allah” in The Glorious Qur’an (Arabic) that He revealed through His last prophet and messenger Muhammad Peace be upon him (PBUH) to all mankind, “Elohim” in (Hebrew) The Torah, “Allah” in Sikhism and “Ila” and “Allo” in Hindu Upanishad (Sanskrit) scriptures and so on. Allah is our Creator, of the entire universe and everything in it and beyond that which we can see and that which cannot see.

The word Islam is derived from the Arabic root verb ‘slm’ means Submission.

Muslim(ah) is the one who submits his or her will, surrenders himself or herself to the will of The Almighty God, Allah.

It is the natural inclination (fitrah) of the soul of any human being that desires to submit to the will of its Creator. So, it is longing and searching for The One True God until it finds and submits to Him.

Every human is born with an inherent inclination towards Islam (submission), and any deviation from it is undoubtedly a departure from sound human nature. Any wise and fair-minded person who is impartially and sincerely seeking the truth must examine the rational proof and evidence of the existence of The Creator and submit to Him to attain salvation.

This is the journey of the soul of any human being irrespective of the religious belief that he or she is born into, either a Jew or a Christian or a Hindu or a Sikh or even a Muslim, in search for submission to The Creator, The One True God, The God Almighty, Allah.

The moment the soul submits to The Creator, it finds itself in Peace and thus achieves protection and safety from The one Who created it. Thus, Islam signifies a profound Peace achieved through complete submission to Allah The Glorified and The Exalted. This is the essence of understanding the message of Islam.

Rational evidence in the Qur’an in which Allah, may He be exalted and glorified, says in Chapter (Surah) anNisa, verse (ayaah) 82, “Do they not then consider the Qur’an carefully? Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much contradiction.”

It is a call to believe in Allah and affirm His oneness in terms of His divinity and lordship. None is deserving of worship except one true God, namely Allah, may He be glorified, for He is the Lord, Creator and Sovereign of this universe, Who controls it and disposes of its affairs; He governs it by His command, and is the One Who possesses the power to cause harm or bring benefit, and Who controls the provision of all creatures – and no one has any share of that with Him.

The Almighty God says in Surah alIkhlas, ayaat 1-4, “Say (O Prophet): He is Allah, (The) One. Allah as-Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks). He begets not, nor was He begotten; And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him”

And in Surah alKahf, ayaah 110, “Say (O Prophet): I am only a man like you. It has been inspired to me that your Ilaah (God) is One Ilaah (i.e. Allah).” So, whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord.

Every Muslim is advised to seek knowledge of the Qur’an and Sunnah (the tradition and lifestyle of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH) to be a good Muslim and worship their Lord with understanding, thereby earning His pleasure, mercy, and protection in this life, avoiding the punishment of hellfire and achieve salvation on the Day of Judgment. And Allah says in the Glorious Qur’an,

وَبَشِّرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِأَنَّ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ فَضْلًۭا كَبِيرًۭا

And give good tidings to the believers that they will have from Allah great bounty.

Declaration of Faith of Islam

The Shahada, the Islamic Declaration of Faith, encapsulates the very heart of the religion: the affirmation of the oneness of God (Tawhid – Monotheism) and the acknowledgment of Muhammad (PBUH) as the final prophet.

In the Glorious Qur’an, Allah declares in Surah al-‘Imran, ayaah 19: “Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam.”

Further, in Surah al-Ahzab, ayaah 40, Allah proclaims: Muhammad is not the father of any one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and the seal [i.e., the last] of the prophets (and messengers).”

Thus, the Shahada serves as the verbal proclamation of this fundamental creed, marking a person’s entry into the fold of Islam: “Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasoolullah.”

This profound statement translates as: “I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
